Noticing the signs

I’ve learnt, over the years, that I need to pay attention to the signs that my mental health is beginning to suffer. Taking care of myself when I’m feeling okay is so important for better mental health.
The first signal to myself that my mental health isn't doing so well is when I start talking to myself out loud about scenarios, and I'll talk to myself over and over about the same scenario - usually something that has happened which has made me feel anxious. When I notice myself doing that, I know that I need to make an effort to meditate more - to bring myself back to my breath, to come back to my body, to try to feel more grounded and less caught in the whirlwind of my thoughts. Slowing down my body helps slow down my mind. Walking meditation is something i’ll try to do when out and about - trying with every step to be aware of my body and aware when my mind starts running itself up in circles again. In these times I’ll also try to make more time for plenty of sleep - luckily I rarely suffer from insomnia - to try to give my body and mind more energy to cope with the stress of daily life.
